Willemstad – Ieder kind heeft recht op onderwijs. Dit is vastgesteld in het internationale verdrag voor de rechten van het kind art. 28 en de Landsverordening 19 juli 1991 houdende bepalingen tot regeling van de leerplicht, onderdeel: de Leerplichtlandsverordening.<\/h3>\n

Ieder kind tussen 4 en 18 jaar heeft recht op onderwijs. Alle kinderen moeten ingeschreven zijn op een school en moeten naar school gaan totdat ze 18 zijn of een startkwalificatie hebben ontvangen.<\/p>\n

Een jongere kan echter een chronische geestelijke of lichamelijke ziekte hebben waardoor hij\/zij niet naar school kan gaan. In dit geval kunnen de ouders vrijstelling voor het kind aanvragen zodat het kind niet naar school hoeft te gaan. Daarnaast kunnen ouders fundamenteel bezwaar hebben tegen de richting van de scholen op Curaçao (denominatie\/godsdienst). In dit geval kunnen ze ook bezwaar aanteken zodat het kind niet naar school gaat en ze moeten aangeven dat het kind (de kinderen) op een andere manier voldoende onderwijs kan ontvangen.<\/p>\n

In 2018\/2019 heeft de overheid het pilootproject ‘homeschooling Curaçao’ geïntroduceerd voor kinderen, die op de een of andere manier niet goed passen in het reguliere onderwijs op Curaçao. Na een interne beoordeling en de beoordeling met ouders op 13 augustus 2019 zet het Ministerie OWCS het project voort in 2019\/2020.<\/p>\n
