WILLEMSTAD –\u00a0Op dinsdag 14 juli 2026 ontving de Gouverneur van Cura\u00e7ao, Zijne Excellentie Mauritsz de Kort, schrijfster en arts Desiree Hooi-Martina op het Paleis van de Gouverneur.<\/p>\n

Tijdens het bezoek overhandigde zij de Gouverneur een exemplaar van haar onlangs verschenen boek YAYA \u2013 Eer en erkenning. In dit boek brengt zij de verhalen van de yaya\u2019s \u2013 vrouwen die generaties lang een onmisbare rol speelden in Cura\u00e7aose gezinnen en gemeenschappen \u2013 onder de aandacht. Het boek belicht hun betekenis binnen de historische context van het eiland en nodigt uit tot reflectie op hun blijvende invloed op de Cura\u00e7aose samenleving.<\/p>\n

Tijdens het gesprek werd stilgestaan bij het belang van het zichtbaar maken van vaak onderbelichte verhalen uit onze geschiedenis. Ook werd gesproken over de waarde van erkenning van cultureel erfgoed en de bijdrage die literatuur kan leveren aan bewustwording, dialoog en verbinding tussen generaties.<\/p>\n
