WILLEMSTAD – On Thursday, 3rd July 2025, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas departed for Jamaica together with a delegation to attend the 49th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), taking place from July 6 to 8, 2025.
The delegation accompanying the Prime Minister includes Mr. Djurick Comenentia, acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of General Affairs; Mrs. Melissa Vasquez, Legal Advisor at the Office of the Prime Minister / Ministry of General Affairs; and Mrs. Nerissa Romero, Policy Officer at the Department of Foreign Relations.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Pisas aims to gain deeper insight into key developments in the region, with a particular focus on combating climate change, clean energy, geopolitical developments, and the overall well-being of Caribbean nations. Curaçao is also working on establishing a more central and permanent role to engage more actively with the CARICOM community.
The meeting is preceded by the 18th CARICOM Road Races on Saturday, July 5, where athletes from across the region will come together to promote camaraderie and highlight the positive impact of sport on public health.
The official opening ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 6, at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, with remarks by Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness and CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett. The business sessions will be held on July 7 and 8, focusing on topics including climate change, food and nutrition security, transportation, telecommunications, and regional economic cooperation.
