WILLEMSTAD – On July 8, 2025, the official meetings of the 49th Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) concluded. Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and his delegation look back on a productive and meaningful participation.
One of Curaçao’s key contributions during the conference was the announcement of its interest in concluding agreements – together with CARICOM member states – for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion. These agreements will relate to taxes on income, profits, and capital gains. Curaçao believes that removing fiscal barriers – such as double taxation – is essential to boost trade and investment across the region.
During the sessions, some of which were confidential, the Curaçao delegation had the opportunity to both learn from others and share its own expertise. Upon return, the insights gained will be made available to the various ministries in order to explore concrete opportunities and maximize the value of Curaçao’s relationship with CARICOM.
“Together, we can build a prosperous Caribbean economy that benefits all our people”, said Prime Minister Pisas in his closing message to the conference.
