WILLEMSTAD – De EU Desk Curaçao, onderdeel van het ministerie van Economische Ontwikkeling (MEO), heeft de EU Funds Week 2025 succesvol afgesloten. Daarmee wordt opnieuw bevestigd dat Curaçao zich positioneert als een van de meest actieve en toonaangevende landen en gebieden overzee (LGO’s) met toegang tot de horizontale programma’s van de Europese Unie.
Deze programma’s bieden directe, competitieve financiering voor onder andere vaardighedenontwikkeling, ondernemerschap, digitale transformatie, culturele samenwerking, jongerenmobiliteit, duurzaamheid en innovatie.
Van 17 t/m 21 november 2025 verkenden ruim 200 deelnemers uit de publieke en private sector, NGO’s, universiteiten en de creatieve industrie de financieringsmogelijkheden van diverse EU-programma’s waarvoor Curaçao in aanmerking komt. Denk aan Erasmus+, Creatief Europa, het Europees Solidariteitskorps, CERV, het Fonds voor Interne Veiligheid, het Programma Justitie, LIFE, Digitaal Europa en Horizon Europa.
Een van de hoogtepunten van de week was de presentatie van het door de EU opgestelde rapport: “Deelname van LGO’s aan EU-programma’s 2021–2024”. Hieruit blijkt dat Curaçao een sterke opwaartse lijn laat zien. Zo werd in deze periode meer dan € 2,5 miljoen (ca. Cg. 5 miljoen) aan EU-financiering toegekend aan 66 projecten met 37 begunstigden – het hoogste aantal ooit. De deelname groeit jaarlijks, wat onder andere te danken is aan de versterkte institutionele capaciteit, een groeiende private sector en uitgebreidere partnerschappen binnen Europa.
Het openingsforum van EU Funds Week omvatte bijdragen van de EU-delegatie op Barbados, de Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) en diverse consultants uit Europa en Curaçao. Dit illustreert het groeiende vertrouwen van Europese instellingen in het potentieel van Curaçao, en de strategische waarde van de LGO-regeling op het gebied van ondernemerschap, handel, exportfinanciering en innovatie.
Bezoeken aan Boca Sami, het Curaçao Seaquarium en het Kaya Kaya-district benadrukten Curaçao’s concurrentiekracht binnen de blauwe economie en de creatieve sector, beide sectoren die sterk aansluiten op de financieringsprioriteiten van de EU.
Het rapport onderstreept tevens de toenemende rol van de EU Desk Curaçao als cruciale partner in het begeleiden van projecten. De EU Desk zal nu toezicht houden op de volgende fase van deelname, waaronder vijf nieuwe projectaanvragen in 2026, verdere uitbreiding van partnernetwerken en de ontwikkeling van een Nationale Routekaart Vaardighedenstrategie 2026–2030, in nauwe samenwerking met betrokken ministeries.
“Curaçao excelleert in de horizontale EU-programma’s,” aldus de EU Desk Curaçao. “We zetten samenwerking om in competitieve financiering – ten gunste van onze jeugd, onze innovators, onze ondernemers en onze toekomst. Iedereen kan meedoen.”
Met het oog op de aankomende grote financieringscyclus van de EU (2028–2034) is Curaçao goed gepositioneerd om haar deelname verder uit te breiden. Tot die tijd blijven de huidige programma’s – die lopen tot eind 2027 – volop kansen bieden voor duurzame ontwikkeling, concurrentievermogen en veerkracht.

WILLEMSTAD – The EU Desk Curaçao, part of the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO), has successfully wrapped up EU Funds Week 2025, reaffirming Curaçao’s status as one of the top Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) in accessing EU Horizontal Programs.
These programs provide direct competitive funding for skills development, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, cultural cooperation, youth mobility, sustainability, and innovation.
From November 17–21, 2025, over 200 participants from the public and private sectors, NGOs, universities, and the creative industries explored opportunities through key EU funding programs eligible for Curaçao, including Erasmus+, Creative Europe, European Solidarity Corps, CERV, Internal Security Fund, Justice Program, LIFE, Digital Europe, and Horizon Europe.
A highlight of the week was the presentation of the EU-commissioned “Report on the Participation of OCTs in EU Programs 2021–2024,” which confirmed Curaçao’s strong upward trajectory. The report shows that Curaçao has secured more than €2.5 million (approximately Cg. 5 million) in EU funding through 66 projects involving 37 beneficiaries — the highest in its history. Participation continues to increase each year, reflecting strong institutional capacity, a growing private sector, and expanding partnerships across Europe.
The Opening Forum featured contributions from the EU Delegation in Barbados, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and consultants from Europe and Curaçao, showcasing European confidence in Curaçao’s potential and the value of the OCT Arrangement for enterprises, trade, export financing, and innovation. Site visits to Boca Sami, Curaçao Seaquarium, and Kaya Kaya highlighted the country’s competitive strengths in Blue Economy and Creative Industries, sectors that closely align with EU funding priorities.
The report highlights the EU Desk Curaçao’s increasing role as a vital supporter of this success. The EU Desk will now oversee the next stage of EU Horizontal program participation, including five new project submissions in 2026, further growth of partnership networks, and the development of the National Skills Strategy Roadmap 2026–2030 in collaboration with key ministries.

As the EU prepares for its upcoming major funding cycle (2028-2034), Curaçao is well positioned to expand its participation and continue supporting programs that enhance global competitiveness, resilience, and sustainable development. However, for now, we still stand to benefit from the current program that concludes in 2027.
