WILLEMSTAD – In het kader van de aanstaande FIFA WK-kwalificatiewedstrijd tussen Curaçao en Bermuda heeft de regering van Curaçao op maandag 8 september 2025 officieel de Bermudaanse minister van Toerisme, Transport, Cultuur en Sport, de heer Owen Darrell, verwelkomd. De ontmoeting benadrukt de hechte relatie tussen beide landen, die als geassocieerde leden van de Caribbean Community (CARICOM) nauw met elkaar verbonden zijn.
De minister werd op luchthaven Hato verwelkomd door minister Sithree van Heydoorn (Onderwijs, Wetenschap, Cultuur en Sport). Tijdens een korte presentatie werd minister Darrell geïnformeerd over de modernisering van de grenspassage op Curaçao en de recente digitale innovaties die zijn doorgevoerd om het reisproces sneller, veiliger en gastvrijer te maken.
De presentatie werd verzorgd door de heer Gerold Daantje, Senior Directeur van de Immigratiedienst, samen met vertegenwoordigers van de politie en het immigratieteam. Bijzondere aandacht ging uit naar de introductie van de Curaçao Express Pass en de E-Gates, die dankzij digitale identiteitsverificatie zorgen voor een efficiënte en veilige grenspassage.
Minister Van Heydoorn sprak zijn waardering uit voor het bezoek van zijn Bermudaanse ambtgenoot en gaf aan dat deze gelegenheid niet alleen sportief van waarde is, maar ook bijdraagt aan het versterken van onderlinge samenwerking binnen het CARICOM-verband.
Het bezoek op de luchthaven werd afgesloten met een rondleiding, waarbij minister Darrell de digitale systemen van dichtbij kon bekijken en uitleg kreeg over de werking van de E-Gates en de Express Pass. Op dinsdag 9 september 2025 staat als hoogtepunt de WK-kwalificatiewedstrijd tussen Curaçao en Bermuda op het programma.

WILLEMSTAD – On Monday, September 8, 2025, the Government of Curaçao officially welcomed the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport of Bermuda, Mr. Owen Darrell. The visit takes place in connection with the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Curaçao and Bermuda. It also highlights the strong ties between the two countries as associate members of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
Upon arrival at Hato International Airport, Minister Darrell was warmly received by Curaçao’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Mr. Sithree van Heydoorn. During a brief presentation, Minister Darrell was informed about the modernization of Curaçao’s border control systems and the recent digital innovations aimed at making the travel process faster, safer, and more passenger-friendly.
The presentation was delivered by Mr. Gerold Daantje, Director of the Immigration Service, together with representatives of the police and the immigration team. Special attention was given to the introduction of the Curaçao Express Pass and E-Gates, which enable efficient and secure border crossing through digital identity verification.
Minister Van Heydoorn expressed his appreciation for the visit of his Bermudian counterpart. He emphasized that the occasion not only strengthens sporting ties but also contributes to enhancing regional cooperation within the CARICOM framework.
The airport visit concluded with a tour, during which Minister Darrell was able to examine the digital systems up close and receive an explanation of how the E-Gates and Express Pass work. The highlight of Tuesday’s program is the World Cup qualifying match between Curaçao and Bermuda.
